FLASHSIDE

Flashcards app

A free flashcards app for your phone and the web

Flashside is a flashcards app for iPhone, Android and the browser. You write cards or import them from Excel, CSV or Anki, and spaced repetition decides when you see each one again. Learning is free, there is no advertising, and the phone apps study offline.

What it does

Cards in, reviews scheduled, nothing to configure

Write a card in seconds

Question on the front, answer on the back, with rich text, images and audio on either side when words are not enough.

Bring the cards you already have

Import a CSV file, an Excel workbook or an Anki package, or paste a list. The importer shows what it read before it makes the collection.

Study what is due, nothing else

The queue holds the cards the scheduler expects you to be about to forget. When it is empty, you are done for the day.

Share a deck with a link

Every collection can become a public link and a QR code. In podcast mode every copy updates when you edit the original.

Phone and web

One collection, three places to study it

Type a long list on a keyboard in the browser, then review it on the bus from the iPhone or Android app. A free account keeps the cards and their review dates in sync between devices. Studying itself needs no account.

Your first ten cards take five minutes

Make a free account to sync across your phone and the browser, or start right away without one.

Questions

Questions about flashcard apps

Is there a free flashcards app?+

Flashside is one. Writing and studying cards, syncing, sharing, importing and the study plan are free on iPhone, Android and the web, with no advertising. Flashside Plus is an optional subscription for extras, each clearly marked; flashside.app/plus lists them and the prices.

Which flashcard app works on both phone and computer?+

Flashside runs on iPhone, Android and in any web browser, and a free account keeps the same collections in sync on all three. You can start studying without an account and add one later.

Can a flashcard app import my existing cards?+

Yes. Flashside imports CSV files, Excel workbooks (.xlsx and .xls), Anki packages (.apkg and .colpkg) and lists pasted as text, in the browser and in the app. Pictures and sounds in an Anki package come along.

Does the flashcards app work offline?+

The phone apps keep your collections on the device, so studying never needs a connection. You need the network only to sync between devices or to download a deck somebody shared.

How does a flashcard app know when to show a card again?+

After each card you grade it again, hard, good or easy. Flashside’s scheduler, FSRS, turns that grade into the next review date, so a card you know comes back rarely and a card you missed comes back soon.
