FLASHSIDE

Quizlet alternative

A Quizlet alternative that schedules your reviews for you

Flashside is a Quizlet alternative built around spaced repetition: you grade each card, and FSRS decides when you see it again. It runs on iPhone, Android and the web, studies offline on the phone, shows no advertising and is free to learn. Your lists come across as pasted text or a spreadsheet.

Moving from Quizlet, you keep what you used it for: your own cards of terms and definitions, sets shared by other people, pictures on a card, and studying on your phone. In Flashside a shared deck is a link or a QR code, images and audio go on either side of a card, and the iPhone and Android apps study offline.

What Quizlet’s features are called here

What Quizlet calls Magic Notes

Picture and PDF import: a photographed page or a PDF becomes cards for you to check. Part of Flashside Plus, in the app.

What Quizlet calls its practice tests

The AI quiz: a quiz written from the cards of your deck, and every answer you get wrong comes back in your reviews. Part of Flashside Plus; writing a quiz yourself is free.

What Quizlet calls Learn

The scheduled session: FSRS picks the cards that are due each day from how you graded them.

No Learn cap, no ads

On the free tier the scheduled session has no monthly limit, and there is no advertising.

Moving your sets

From a list of terms to a scheduled deck

  1. 01

    Copy the list as text

One card per line: the term, then a dash, tab, colon or comma, then the definition.

  2. 02

    Paste it into the import

In the browser, open your collections, choose Import, then Paste. The importer shows which separator it found before it makes anything.

  3. 03

    Study what is due

From the first review on, FSRS decides when each card comes back. A spreadsheet or CSV file imports the same way.

Every device

Questions

Switching from Quizlet

What is a good Quizlet alternative?+

If you want spaced repetition that schedules every review for you, Flashside is one: it uses FSRS on iPhone, Android and the web, studies offline on the phone, shows no advertising and is free to learn.

Is there a free Quizlet alternative?+

Flashside is free to learn: writing and studying cards, syncing, sharing, importing and the study plan cost nothing. Flashside Plus is an optional subscription for extras, and each Plus feature is marked as such; flashside.app/plus lists them and the prices.

What Flashside Plus adds and costs →

How do I move my Quizlet sets to another app?+

Get the terms and definitions as text, one card per line, then paste them into Flashside’s import. It splits each line at a dash, tab, colon or comma and shows the split before it makes the collection. A CSV or Excel file imports the same way.

Is there a Quizlet alternative with spaced repetition?+

Flashside schedules every card with FSRS. You grade a card again, hard, good or easy, and it picks the next review date, so the cards you know come back rarely and the ones you miss come back soon.

Can I share flashcard sets with a class?+

Yes. Every Flashside collection can become a public link and a QR code. In podcast mode every student’s copy updates when you edit the original.
